The Mi Corazón Sangrante series, published by Interlude Press, is a paranormal romance with vampire characters. The client wanted the covers to be very professional, sexy and evoke a dark, mysterious “noir” vibe, but was working on a shoestring budget. I was able to find some workable options for characters and backgrounds with stock photography, and edited them to achieve the desired effect.The books needed to have a distinct “series” look, while maintaining a degree of individuality. I used similar treatment and placement of elements (lead character up front, shadowy street background) and use of fonts to unify the covers, while playing with color and specific title logotypes to mix things up a bit. The Bleeding Heart logotype echoes the character’s tattoo blood drop, while Tainted Heart uses a “stake through the heart” visual metaphor to tie in to the theme of betrayal that weaves through the story. Responsible for: Cover art concept, layout and design, photo choice and manipulation, preparing marketing materials and final cover art files for digital and print editions of the books.
